Oh, the places we’ll go!

The freedom of the open road is seductive, serendipitous and absolutely liberating.”
– Aaron Lauritsen

I love road trips. Not the driving-to-get-where-I-need-to-be trip, but a meandering not-sure-where-the-next-stop-is-going-to-be kind of trip. I’ve driven cross-country many times, but almost always with a specific destination in mind and not too much time to get there. Last February I had a taste of a sort of meandering trip that only whetted my appetite for more.

My destination on that trip was Miami where Annie and I would spend a few days with Vicki, but our itinerary was fluid, changing with the threat of thunderstorms and flooding in the South and Midwest.  Driving into Memphis one evening, I hit an intense thunderstorm that so rattled me that I switched plans the next morning and headed south to Montgomery Alabama, leaving Nashville and Asheville and Charleston SC for another trip.

When I returned to Taos and walked in my house — after three weeks of living out of my suitcase   — and was not thrilled and relieved to be home, I knew it was time to sell my house and move on — which I had been thinking about ever since Cynthia moved to Durango. This time, I would be looking for a low-elevation place because of health issues.

Writing this blog is not only my personal record of the trip, which I can share with friends and family, but a way to capture my thoughts and feelings in real time and prevent me from romanticizing one place or overthinking another.

I invite you to come along and read what you find interesting and skip the rest . . . If you feel moved to comment, you can do so by emailing me at my Gmail address or at  Sandra@RoadTrippingwithAnnie.com.
