Talk about scenic drives! The two-lane Blue Ridge Parkway is one of the most scenic and scariest I’ve done (most scary was Route 1 along the California coast through Big Sur). I stopped at the Asheville Folk Art Center. — could have spent lots of time and money there — and then drove about 10 more miles, climbing to about 3,500 feet. Which is nothing when I think of the 7,000-foot elevation of Taos and 10,000 feet at Taos Ski Valley — but it’s all relative.

Many questions . . . How did the makers of the sign know it was the last buffalo? As seen by whom? Did Joseph Rice tell the story to his friends? Was it then handed down by word of mouth until someone created this sign 200 years later? And isn’t it just the White Buffalo that is considered sacred? Just asking.
